This Friday’s review of The Unhappy Wife comes from Marquessa! She and I began our blogs at the same time, two years ago. I think we met in Blogging 101 and have been supporters of one another ever since. Check out her blog! She’s an amazing fiction writer, who will have you waiting for her next installment about Alejandro 😉

As you all know, I’m not the best at book reviews, but I had to do it for my fellow blogging sister, Dr. Garland. She is beautiful, intelligent, honest and inspiring. When reading her posts, I often come away with a handful of golden nuggets and a new perspective, so supporting her new book was kind of a no brainer. Although I’m not married, engaged and never have been, Katherin promised that I’d gain something from The Unhappy Wife. And I did. Absolutely.
Twelve women share one thing in common – the quest for being happily married to the men they chose; however, each one finds herself in an unexpected marital predicament. Inspired by real events and told from each woman’s perspective, these short stories are firsthand accounts detailing the realities of marriage well after each woman said “I do.”

Sometimes the best Book Reviews are by people who don’t do book reviews for a living 😉 Thanks to my girl over at fabulouswithglitches for wearing a T-shirt, posting to Twitter, ordering The Unhappy Wife, reading it, and writing this heartfelt review! Much appreciation luv!
The two bedroom apartment and the job I had were because of Thom. We built a life together: eating breakfast, driving to work, eating lunch, returning home, eating dinner. His reliable presence smothered me.
But the alternative was to return home.
“Now, will you marry me?”
Why not, I thought.

Tanka inspired by an extract from The Unhappy Wife, by Dr K E Garland. The book is a fictionalised account of the real lives of 12 women who are/were in unhappy marriages, and includes an afterword by relationship coach Anita Charlot. The extract is from Chapter 4, capturing the world of one of the ‘voiceless’ wives. I am currently reading my paperback copy and loving the insight into the characters and unique circumstances that have caused the dysfunction in each relationship. Kathy has done a great…

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. WordPress bloggers are some of the MOST supportive people I’ve never met. This post is no exception! Although he’s not a book blogger, Tareau not only ordered The Unhappy Wife, but also read and commented. Check out his favorite story and stay tuned for my upcoming series of conversations centered on each wife’s story. Thanks again Tareau!
*SPOILER ALERT, LADY G, DO NOT READ, I repeat Lady G, DO Not Read. Don’t do it Gwinn*
Ok, the last book I read was called “The Unhappy Wife” by Dr. K.E. Garland. It was a very informative look into the mindsets of Women from the Midwest and the South, who have been abused, cheated on, and used. All of these women either had to overcome something or someone to leave their husbands or forgive their husbands. I would like to highlight a few things from this amazing book.
Miss Sharlene’s story started in 1977. She Married 5 times in her lifetime and she explains in depth what happened with each marriage. The most powerful quote I’ve heard in a long time was this.
“There’s no perfect person. We as women are not perfect. We have imperfections. But the thing is, we’recommend looking for perfections in a man. And that’s…

A Conversation with Dr. K E Garland
Dr. Katherin E Garland (writer/ academic / blogger / my friend) has just published The Unhappy Wife, a book of short stories based on the real lives of 12 women in marital discontent.
The closest I’ve come to marriage is having a partner who is a wedding photographer. With or without the ring, however, relationships have their ups and downs: sometimes they work; sometimes we invest in the work to make them work; sometimes we walk away; and sometimes, we remain – unhappily.
Over the weekend, Kathy and I chatted about her book, the writing process, and insights on love and relationships.
