About

Katherin, Kathy, Katie G, KG, Miss Garland, Dr Garland…these are the titles by which I’m known. As a writer, I prefer to go by K E Garland. But on this blog, you can call me Kathy.

Writing helps me to think about my place in the world, past and present. It also helps me process a view of society and what some might deem as mundane. And there’s always a lesson learned or special twist at the end. Either way, it’s life through my lens and I’m happy to share it with others.

Since I’ve delved back into writing, I’ve been featured in a few anthologies: Chicken Soup for the Soul: I’m Speaking Now (2021), Pulp: A Year in PulpMag (2020), and All the Women in My Family Sing (2018), I’ve won first place for an unpublished creative nonfiction short story (The Transition, 2016), and my essay “Tough Love” was curated with the Lungs Project (2020).

Oh yeah…I also have three books: Kwoted, The Unhappy Wife, and Daddy: Reflections of Father-Daughter Relationships. Hope you enjoy!

      1. Fabulous… all your work. How dyou do it? I’ve always wanted to write a book, but something else needed to be down. Or I just needed time to travel. Now I want to write but life’s so intricate in detail and responsibility. It’s easier to blog or write a tiny story. I love the feel of that a short story but unsure where to send it, from India. Anyway, wow. I needed to see your blog. So impressed, Kathy.

  2. Kathy,

Hello! I’m leaving WordPress for Medium – to me it seems to offer more exposure and more challenges. I’m sad to shut down my WP account; it gave me such support, but in actuality only deeply connected me to a select few (lol I borrowed your words); people I’d like to stay in touch with. I’ll follow your blog by email.
God – this sound like a form letter, but it’s not.
Best best best to you. Obviously we don’t know each other, but knowing you a bit from your posts, you’re someone I’d like to know better, and will continue to follow your work.
