About

Katherin, Kathy, Katie G, KG, Miss Garland, Dr Garland…these are the titles by which I’m known. As a writer, I prefer to go by K E Garland. But on this blog, you can call me Kathy.

Writing helps me to think about my place in the world, past and present. It also helps me process a view of society and what some might deem as mundane. And there’s always a lesson learned or special twist at the end. Either way, it’s life through my lens and I’m happy to share it with others.

Since I’ve delved back into writing, I’ve been featured in a few anthologies: Chicken Soup for the Soul: I’m Speaking Now (2021), Pulp: A Year in PulpMag (2020), and All the Women in My Family Sing (2018), I’ve won first place for an unpublished creative nonfiction short story (The Transition, 2016), and my essay “Tough Love” was curated with the Lungs Project (2020).

Oh yeah…I also have three books: Kwoted, The Unhappy Wife, and Daddy: Reflections of Father-Daughter Relationships. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Dear Kathy, I have nominated you for a Mystery Blogger Award. Here is the link https://koolkosherkitchen.wordpress.com/2016/12/06/three-awards-and-a-thai-style-chicken/. You are not in any way obligated to accept, and I fully understand that not everyone has the time and inclination to participate in these self-and-others-promoting exercises. Therefore, I will truly appreciate if you accept the nomination, as I sincerely think you deserve it, but I won’t get offended if you don’t. Nominating each one of you is my way of giving credit to some exceptional bloggers and perhaps attracting attention to your work.

    1. Thanks so much! I appreciate the nomination, but I typically don’t participate in blogging awards. I used to host something called “Other People’s Quotes,” so if you’d like to contribute your favorite quote/saying, then I’ll post it as a thank you to you πŸ˜‰

      1. No problem, I understand and appreciate. It is my way of showing my admiration, probably for the last time, since I am also going award-free. Thank you for the quote offer. I’ll give you two for the price of one. One of my favorite quotes is from Proverbs: “Educate each child according to his needs.” (King Solomon). Our school motto was ” The stone the builders rejected, has become a cornerstone” (Holiday Liturgy). Do what you will with them!

    1. Thanks so much Robin! Oh, I just realized I’ve been misspelling your name. Apologies. I appreciate the pingback and nominations, but I don’t participate in challenges. If you ever have a quote you’d like me to share for my “Other People’s Quotes” category, then feel free to send it to me and I will share your site that way.

    1. Thanks so much. That’s always one of my major goals: relatability (don’t know if I made that word up or not, but I hope you know what I mean lol). I’ll be heading over to yours soon.

  5. Hi Kathy, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I came across your blog from a post written by Khaya Ronkainen on your book, Kwoted (which I’ve just purchased). As a long time lover of quotes I really appreciate those which speak to me as yours do. Thank you ~Steph
