Mental Health Matters: Children with Tim Dukes, Behavioral Specialist

tim_children_MHMToday, I share a conversation I had with Timothy A. Dukes, behavioral specialist. We discussed parenting and children, specifically during the pandemic. However, he shared insights about how to help children re-set their behavior, as well as how parents should do something as simple as asking our children, “What can I do to make your day better?,” which can be beneficial even if there’s no pandemic occurring.

Our conversation can be viewed on YouTube or listened to on SoundCloud. I hope these words help us all to become healthier versions of ourselves.

  2. I love how you raise these topics. I wish that “What can I do to make your day better?” would have been entertained back way back when. But I love seeing modern day parents listening and discussing with their kids.

  3. Wonderful interview. Dr Kathy (and you are looking great, by the way!). I have shared the Youtube link with my younger son; both he and his wife are in Mental Health field, and I am sure they will find it helpful. I will play it for my students next week.
    Be well and stay safe!

      1. You are so very welcome! It goes perfectly with the unit we have just started, discussing parenting and human development. I believe that nothing happens by coincidence, but only by His Hand.
        Much love,

  4. Watched the YouTube version. Thanks Katherin and Tim for your great advice for dealing with kids (or anyone) during the pandemic (or anytime). You both seem so comfortable on camera. I liked the de-escalate and reset, wouldn’t it be great if everyone gave each other a quiet moment to calm down instead of yelling and screaming and threatening? That alone would change the world.

    1. Thanks for the compliment Joan! I’m hoping to have a very conversational, natural tone. I really want everyone to feel as if they just dropped in on this convo for a few minutes, so I’m glad that translates.

You know…I thought the pandemic was going to help us de-escalate and re-set, but now I’m not so sure. We have to be sure to TAKE those moments on purpose so we can move forward with a little peace and love ❤
