Yes, being selective makes life so much less complicated and nips conflict in the bud. I’m good at doing this in terms of where my time and energy is spent, but find it easier in relationships that are new/not so strongly connected. Where I compromise and don’t show discernment, I end up resentful and immediately regret my choice.
