Always hurts my heart when I see homeless folks. A lot of people say “But what if they’re not really, what if they collect your money and drive away in a nice car, what if they can walk away after pretending to be disabled, what if they’re not really a veteran.” My thoughts, But what if it’s real? What do we have to lose? I can spare a few bucks, I don’t care if they’re faking it, it makes ME feel good and what if, just what if they need it? Have some humanity is what I say whether you know or not if they’re really needing it. Not sure if you’ve seen this video or heard this song but I just saw it for the first time yesterday and I’m not going to lie, I got teary eyed. Great capture Sweetness!
I totally agree Lennon! Thing is, it’s not even my place to decide what they’re going to do with the money after, and we can never know, unless we follow the person. It’s like people make so many excuses NOT to simply be of service, as opposed to just giving a dollar or whatever smh Love the video by the way.
My elders used to say, “there but for the grace of God go I”. Your photo reminded me of that immediately because illness, circumstances or lack of opportunities could put any of us in his position. Whenever I start my blue & funky pity party, I try to remember those who are worse off than I am and I count my blessings…and lift them up in my heart. Funny, I wrote about this in my blog post today. Amazing photo!
Exactly! That’s one of the reasons I’ve started paying so much attention to the so-called homeless. They’re just people like us whose circumstances have landed them in a different position. Thanks for the compliment.
Great shot, KE. I love the setting, esp the realty sign in the background. The house is for sale, the person is homeless. A powerful juxtaposition. š
LOL, you’re right, it IS the Progressive logo. I don’t suppose he is looking for insurance either… Still a great shot–the man, the homeless sign (what a flair with the handwriting!), the bottle of water, being surrounded by flowering bushes. I never think to snap photos, too busy absorbing the scene I guess. But I’m glad you do! š

Powerful shot, Kathy! Interesting contrast; a house on sale and the homeless man…

Thanks Khaya! I think that’s for an insurance agent, but it would be a great juxtaposition if it were a home for sale š

Thanks Joan! I think it would be a wonderful juxtaposition, except I believe that’s a Progressive Insurance sign instead.
